Völser Aicha is a small hamlet in the Municipality of Völs am Schlern (860 m m.s.l.) standing in a peaceful and sun-drenched position between the Schlern and Rosengarten massifs. Findings dating back to the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages bear witness to ancient settlements. Crossings in ancient time led from Tiers to Prösels, from Ums to Völs passing through Völser Aicha. The first document to mention Völser Aicha is dated 1185. It refers to "Chunradus von Saben", an estate found in the Veilis area called Aichach. Around the middle of the 13th century even single farmsteads are mentioned. During the Middle Ages most peasants had to serve the “Lord of Völs” residing at Castle Prösels.
The area stretches from the vineyards of Unteriacha (located at about 600 m.s.l.), over chestnut groves, orchards and sun-drenched terraces dotted by ancient farmsteads and reaches the town with the chapel of St. John mentioned already in documents dated 1250. There are other farmsteads at even higher altitudes - approx. 1200 m.s.l. - that offer a breathtaking view of the Tschafon, the tallest mountain of Völser Aicha. It is an enchanted and sunny place perfect for a holiday far away from mass tourism, yet very close to Bozen.
The fauna is rich: from the Mediterranean maquis to mixed forests of conifers and broad-leaved trees, meadows covered with a wide variety of Alpine species up to the summer pastures and marshes, perfect for excursions into a new world worth discovering. The ideal starting point for marvelous excursions into the mountains of the nearby Schlern Natural Park in the heart of the Dolomites. A rich schedule of concerts, country festivals and many other events will make your holidays a unique experience. You will feel yourself at ease in the warm family atmosphere of the many farmsteads of Völser Aicha.
