Prösels Castle
Ort: Fiè allo Sciliar/Völs am Schlern
First mentioned in the 13th century, Prösels Castle was the main residence of the lords of Völs-Colonna. In 1517 the residence was reconstructed to a representative castle with the most modern defence technologies of the time. Since 1981 the castle has been owned by the "Kuratorium Schloss Prösels GmbH"s (Prösels Castle Curatorship Ltd.), which took care of the required renovation works and brought the castle back to life. In addition to guided castle tours, also numerous cultural events take place at the castle during the summer months. A special highlight is the arms collection with material from the 19th century, including weapons from the battlefields of Solferino and Custozza, and the "Batzenhäusl" collection with paintings and drawings dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries when the Batzenhäusl Inn in Bolzano was a popular meeting point for artists and intellectuals.
