Carezza Lake... probably the most beautiful alpine lake in the Alps

Carezza Lake is especially known for its soft, deeply green water, and the beautiful mountain scenery of the Catinaccio and Latemar in the background. The lake shows all its beauty in the evening or in the early morning when the Catinaccio and Latemar get reflected in the crystal-clear water of the lake. The lake is supplied by underground sources from the Latemar mountain range. The depth and size of the lake depends on the season and on the weather; the deepest point is put at 22 metres.

According to an old legend a beautiful mermaid used to live in Carezza Lake. A magician fell in love with the mermaid and wanted to kidnap her. The mermaid noticed in time and disappeared into the lake. Directly in the lake you can now admire a bronze statue of the mermaid. Due to the water level the statue can only be seen at certain times during the year.
